This week, we released our Cognitive Apprenticeship feature for students, giving them a curated AI to engage with for feedback. Today, we're excited to introduce the instructor side of that vision.
Meet Hugo 🐶
Who's Hugo?
Hugo is our agent, built right on top of the TimelyGrader application layer. When you summon Hugo to your side, he will work alongside you, taking the busywork off your place while keeping you firmly in the driver's seat as the human in the loop. Hugo is trained to help you fine-tune assignments, update rubrics, and run post-assessment analysis.
From our experience working with hundreds of faculty, we realized that the most time consuming step is getting the ‘darts close to the board’. We never said using AI assisted grading was going to be easy but we hope Hugo, as your aide, will make things smoother.
What can Hugo do?
Hugo can assist you on nearly every page in TimelyGrader. From our experience, instructors spend the most time fine-tuning and training TimelyGrader to deliver accurate grading and feedback, so that's exactly where we focused the training for Hugo.
Here's what he can help with:
Rubrics: Create, update, or rebuild rubrics from the ground up.
Hugo helping you create a rubric
Assignments: Create, edit, and refine assignments, including:
Reshaping feedback structure and instructions to match your style
Adjusting grading instructions to reflect how you interpret the rubric
Tuning inline comment settings for precise, targeted feedback
Setting citation formats and uploading context files to your Content Bank
Hugo can help you upload relevant files to your assignment
Single submissions: Polish feedback and grading on an individual submission.
Batch edits: Apply feedback and grading changes across an entire batch at once.
Hugo can help you edit a specific submission or across all submissions.
Grading Insights: Analyze the data on your Grading Insights page and surface trends, patterns, and recommendations.
What we are trying to accomplish:
We built Hugo with a few clear goals in mind:
Help you get the darts closer to the board. Dialling in accurate grading and feedback usually takes time and repetition. Hugo is designed to shorten that loop, so you reach higher accuracy in less time and less clicks.
Instructional design support throughout your journey. Hugo offers guidance at every stage, not just at setup, so the right help is there whenever you need it, pre-grading or post-grading.
A lighter onboarding lift for institution support teams. By handling much of the heavy lifting that instructional design support teams have traditionally carried, we are hoping Hugo can ease the burden for onboarding.
A little plus, here’s the real life Hugo:
Hugo doing Hugo things.
Is Hugo here yet?
Sooner than you think! Stay tuned for more Hugo things. 🐶🐶🐶
